Dr. István Kónya, Vice President of the Curia of Hungary, represented the Curia at the VIth International Conference of the Presidents of the Supreme Courts of Central and Eastern Europe, held in Belgrade from 20 to 22 June 2016.
The Conference discussed the following main topics: contribution of the supreme courts to the quality of justice; prevention of backlogs, case management and alternative dispute resolution; the role of supreme courts in reforming the judicial system; cooperation of the supreme courts with the European Court of Human Rights; the judiciary and the media.
Dr. István Kónya gave presentations on the means available to the Curia of Hungary for ensuring the unified application of law, on the jurisprudence-analysing working groups, on the Hungarian legal regulation governing the publicity of hearings, and on the Curia's information-sharing practice. As to the cooperation of the supreme courts with the European Court of Human Rights, the Vice President made mention of the Curia’s monthly newsletter, which provides information on the most important Strasbourg judgments.
The VIIth International Conference of the Presidents of the Supreme Courts of Central and Eastern Europe to be held in 2017 will be hosted by the Curia of Hungary.
