The Curia’s internet website has recently been remodelled and given a new design. From planning to realisation, the process of renewal took approximately ten months.
The remodelling has covered both the Hungarian and English language forms of the Curia’s webpage as well as its version for people with visual impairments.
Today’s online media has a constantly growing influence and it plays a determining role in the public acceptance and social image of the judiciary. This confirmed the urgent need to redesign the Curia’s website in order to adapt it to the requirements of the digital age and modern day communications.
The renewed website serves the purposes of increasing the Curia’s transparency and providing a better platform to present the organisational background and professional activities of the supreme judicial forum for a wider range of internet users, as well as reaching new target groups.
The main objectives of the remodelling process have been to provide more information on the Curia’s professional activities, to improve the Curia’s public image, to put an emphasis on the value of its work and to strengthen its co operation with other judicial forums on a national and international level. In addition, a strong focus has been placed on creating a refined, elegant, well structured, easily manageable, dynamic and user friendly website with topics variously illustrated and complemented by photos and videos.
The process started with the setting up of an ad hoc working group – composed of the heads of departments of the Press Secretariat, the IT Department, the Legal Library and the International Relations and European Legal Office, an employee in charge of design management from the Presidential Secretariat, as well as a photographer – that was given the task of examining the webpages of European judicial institutions, foreign and Hungarian courts and universities, and collecting their best practices. Consultations were held to share the results of the working group’s findings with trainee judges and court secretaries from the Curia, who contributed to the preparation of the new website with their proposals and graphics ideas.
For the purposes of finding a specialist company to redesign its website, the Curia launched a restricted call for tenders and invited short listed companies in the webpage graphics sector to submit their reference documents and visual layouts. From among the tenderers, the management of the Curia selected Studinger Grafika Bt and commissioned it to deliver its work on the basis of an official contract of supply of services.
The tenders were evaluated with special regard to the general impression, style and mood elements of the layouts. Tenderers were expected to design a website without any disturbing, distracting or moving elements and to construct the website’s elements by taking into account the conditions of the site’s future operation and maintenance by the Curia’s IT experts.
The successful tenderer was requested to pay particular attention to the new menu structure conceived on the basis of the former website’s page views, a newly selected set of photos and the logos, font types and colour codes included in the Curia’s recently adopted design manual.
The former website’s content was transferred to the redesigned webpage, new thematic blocks with relevant symbols or images were created, visual pieces of information were complemented with headings, a new home page was constructed and the order of submenus was modified. Moreover, the successful tenderer was expected to bring the website’s dominant colours into line with the colours of the Curia’s logo, and to elaborate a responsive design which would ensure that the website be displayed in a uniform manner on cell phones, tablets and desktop computers alike.
Upon receipt of the layout, the IT Department uploaded the draft version of the remodelled website to a test server for further testing and verifying its proper functioning.
Additional consultations were held on a number of occasions to enable the members of the above mentioned working group, as well as trainee judges and court secretaries from the Curia to express their opinion on the draft version.
During the testing phase, the Curia’s heads of departments were invited to make a list of errors in respect of the contents provided by them. The IT Department then proceeded to correct the errors in accordance with these lists.
The Curia’s redesigned website contains the following new features:home page

- latest news (the last ten news releases are displayed and regularly updated on the main page)
- new thematic blocks: Applicable guidelines; Photos, videos and audio recordings
- submenu to present the Curia’s Legal Library
- uniform display of the press releases of the Curia’s Civil, Criminal and Administrative and Labour Departments
- uniform presentation of the Curia’s judicial leaders (with new portrait photos)
- photo gallery (with more and new photos)
